We’re always on the hunt for new favorites in the Etsy world, since we love all the varieties and options from handmade clothing, accessories, and trinkets for the home. And the other great thing about Etsy? There’s even a place for vintage. Much better than eBay’s display and selection because, the vintage selection is often curated and hand picked by the seller from vintage shops across the country and there’s a personality behind the seller’s page. And Candy Shop Vintage, our newest Etsy fav find, is curated vintage jewelry at its best.

Deirdre Zahl, the South Carolina-based designer and curator behind the page, hand picks the costume jewelry from flea markets and vintage shops across the east coast, while only selecting pieces with her personal taste. She then delicately styles each photo for her page with cute props such as appropriate candies and pictures of Coco Chanel. All her pieces are more than reasonably priced, and if you decide to make a purchase, she personally wraps each piece in wax paper and sends along a piece of candy for your sweet tooth. Party Hard with Headbands

Need we even say (again?) how much studs are in this season? Found on everything, we’ve stocked more headbands in for you headband lovin’ movers and shakers, and think you can party just a little bit harder this season with these rockin’ headbands:

Trend Alert: Large Jeweled Necklaces

If you haven’t been clued in yet, on the new necklace trend just take a gander on over to Target or to J.Crew and see what we mean. Necklaces are getting huge! And we mean literally in size. Necklaces are getting bigger and drape longer and longer. To keep up with the trends we got some in the store for the holiday parties that are coming up. Now, these necklaces are meant to make a statement. So accessorizing them with a highly patterned dress or outfit, just might make the necklace not work, it’s supposed to grab attention and say yoooohoooo, look at me. So go ahead and let it, by pairing it with something simple, maybe something black, or solid.

The big necklace trend not only has more and more jewels that grow in size but the necklace chain has evolved to ribbon, a more appropriate material to hold the weight of that bling. . .

The Thanksgiving holiday is over, which means just because the economy might be in a slump, doesn’t mean you don’t start your holiday shopping sooner rather than later. And what’s always a nice lil’ holiday treat for yourself or a gift for a family member or friend? Hats! Hats! Hats! Always the perfect complementary accessory to an outfit, we have some very special and might we say, unique hat options for the you to choose from:

Go Global: African Print Bags and Totes

These days, there’s a new world-wide trend, and it’s called fair-trade. People want to go more global in their purchases and believe that buying a product means something to someone else in the world and their livelihood, so this season if you’re looking for some do-good purchases that are ALL fair-trade and handmade while you’re at, you need to check out Es N Yaa.

All the materials in the company’s eco-friendly, travel and leisure bags, even the cloth, used in this collection are handmade by a Ghanaian family and their livelihood is sustained by Es N Yaa. Many pieces of the collection are made of “woodin” fabrics: handmade, one of a kind fabrics that are culturally taboo to duplicate.

The clinching cool factor to Es N Yaa? They mix fabrics from various tribes in Africa to promote tribal unity. For instance in their Spring 2009 collection features cloth from the Ashanti, Ewe, and Fanti tribes in Ghana.

It’s True: Faux Fur Is In

With PETA on everyone’s back these days (and for good reason) it’s best to stick with the faux furs for the upcoming wintry winds and snow storms. Fake fur outerwear has gotten so good these days, you can’t tell the real stuff from the fake stuff anyway, so go cheaper and be friendly to the animals around us by opting to fake it. And one of our favorite designers, B B Dakota fakes it good, reaaaal good. We have the real goods in the store right now.

We’ve got this super great faux vest in called The “Potter” and it’s $80. It’s a nice extra layer to throw on over an outfit and pretty much goes with anything since it’s a brown and black hair mix.

Or if you’re looking for a hood on your fine faux fur outerwear, go with the “Sara” for $90. Complete with pockets, this zipped up vest is even more for your money when it comes to soft fur for the season. Bottomline: So if you’re going to go fur, go faux.

Accessory of the Week: Chain Metal Necklaces

Ever get the feeling you want to take it back real old school? As in all the way back to the Middle Ages? Well the recent rampant sights of chain metal are definitely an expression of this desire. And to feed that desire, we decided the most appropriate way to take it back to the Middle Ages is with one simple accessory: Chain Metal Necklaces. They’re statement piece and should probably be worn with a simple top or dress that is either black or some contrasting color. Either way, you’re going to bring some shine to your wardrobe and outfit. In a handkerchief shape, the necklaces come in two sizes, so you can see which one you fancy best. The smaller ones go for $28 (but can be doubled up and it doesn’t look like too much at all, see the photo below) or go for one large one instead at $45. We think even King Arthur’s chain metal suit has nothing on these draping necklaces.

The smaller versions come in black and gold, but can be doubled up for one killer accessory statement.

Of if you just want to go solo with one large necklace it comes in gold. . .

. . . and in pewter, perhaps the most accurate chain metal color.

Something New for New Year’s? This Leather Dress is Calling You

Always on the hunt for you and for what you could sport as the ball drops on this New Year’s (see our previous post), we’ve got another choice that just arrived this week in the store! We’ve been stocking our store with many items from For Joseph line, and mainly, we’ve been digging their leather apparel (jackets and skirts), so now it was time to bring in the full-on leather dress. And for almost $30 cheaper than what the website is offering the dress for, we’ve made the structured leather dress only $338. Think about how much some other leather dresses cost, and I mean, real leather, and you’ll understand that this is more than reasonable. Complete with pockets and cap sleeves the dress will make more than one head turn at a New Year’s Eve shin dig. Turning heads, sultry leather style, and a new year’s night to remember is the only way to close down 2009.
