What’s Dashiki you ask? Well you’ve probably seen it, you just didn’t know it was called that. . . but it’s the African print you see bein’ sportin’ around the city on tops, full length flowy dresses, and even some tight, hip-huggin’ ones for that matter. It’s quite the trend. For instance, Zachary’s Smile around NYC has been carrying some Dashiki dresses for quite some time now, as well as Anthropologie is even hittin’ up the trend. (I was in there last week, and saw a Dashiki top hanging on one of their mannequins).
So we’re declaring it Dashiki D-Day, meaning if you don’t have a printed dress, top, or skirt in Dashiki–get one! Today’s the day, it’s Dashiki D-day. The print can sometimes be wrongly categorized as “hippie”, but I beg to differ, since I’ve seen these dresses and skirts matched with designer labels around the city, and even runway shows have taken to traditional African prints.
Here are some cases in point on how African print is takin’ on the title of “the next trend”:

Typically, Dashiki is seen on traditional men’s shirts, but it’s carried over to the women’s caftan (or katan, however you’re keen on spelling it), and now it’s stretched the boundaries even more for the gals not wanting a garment that is so geometric or structured. That’s why it works perfect on this. . .
Here’s an up close ‘n personal shot:
And you know where you can get this for Dashiki D-Day. . . your very own Mini Mini Market for just 68 buckeroos. Do a lil’ dance in the Dashiki dress, and tell us how it fits and flows.
